Bayesianism in five minutes (by Martin Poulter)

Posted by Martin Poulter on 29 July 2010

The talks from the second Ignite Bristol evening were filmed by the Bristol-based Films@59 company and are now being put online. The evening started with my talk, “What is Bayesianism and why should you care?”

At my previous Ignite talk I was too ambitious in what I tried to pack into five minutes. For this second talk, I ditched the bullet points and concentrated on getting one basic idea across.

Keep an eye on the Ignite Bristol Youtube channel for more talks, which were all well-presented and very thought-provoking.

If you want to give a talk at Ignite Bristol yourself, the next date is 31 October 2010, the venue is once again the Tobacco Factory Theatre and the proposal form is that way.

This collection includes such face-smacking classics as “Why are there school? is a point to it?” and “I caught my son having sex with a guy and think he might be gay. Is there a definitive way I can tell?” Some are likely trolls, but there’s some real human failure in these captured questions.

This was the talk of Comic-Con over the weekend, but no one seemed quite able to explain what they’d just seen. Now you can see why:

Posted by Martin Poulter on 26 July 2010

One of the true classics of social manners is combined with Pride and Prejudice in this spoof trailer.

It starts well, though towards the end it seems to think that Fight Club is a Tarantino film.

Posted by Tom Gidden on 14 July 2010

Following on from the original “I’m On A Horse” ad and the more recent “Swan Dive” ad — once again, mostly single-shot with very little CGI — the Old Spice Guy is now making video posts responding to individual tweets… LOADS of them.
