I wouldn’t normally post a gay man’s ad on a sex line in this blog. This gay man, however, is a Republican US representative and co-sponsor of the federal amendment to ban gay marriage. The Christian Coalition gave his voting record a 92% rating, while the Human Rights Campaign gave him 0%. Following the release of this recording, which is allegedly him, he has decided not to run for re-election.

Libby_M directs us to this site which conveniently brings together lots of information about MPs, searchable by postcode. My local MP agrees with me on gay sex and stem cell research, but let me down about the war with Iraq. Through this portal you can get to the Guardian’s excellent summaries of key votes as well as information on attendance and contributions to debate.

8-Beat Music Mix
Posted by Martin Poulter on 26 August 2004
Is it possible to take 8 beats from 88 pop songs and make a mix that is 8 minutes and 8 seconds long from the loops? Well no, but the results of the attempt are impressive nonetheless. Also check out the Intro-Expansion mixes – a similar experiment mixing loops of intros only.

Conversation with a second-generation Scientologist
Posted by Martin Poulter on 19 August 2004
Write-up of a debate I had in the Watershed with a Scientologist who tried to dissuade me from hosting Web pages critical of Scientology. No links or footnotes as yet, but I may add them as I get time.

Planet Perplex – Amazing Art

This seems to be the Web’s prime source for ambiguous, puzzling and otherwise odd pictures. Included are works by Escher, Dali and Magritte as well as the sort of baffling figures studied by perceptual psychologists. Lots of entertainment for your eye and brain.

Mitch Hedberg: Comic Genius
Posted by Martin Poulter on 15 August 2004
http://www.thedotdotdot.com/humor/hedberg.html
As previously featured, I’m a big fan of one-liner humour. Mitch Hedberg seems to be the main current exponent of this style. His one-liners are very much in the vein of Steven Wright and Jack Handey.
“An escalator can never break. It can only become stairs. You would never see an “Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order” sign, just “Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience.” ”

The battle of two great intellectual genuises, one from ancient times BC (Before Cooling-aids-for-beer), the other a modern philosopher and nuclear plant safety inspector.
