Live footage and interview with the Australian noise artist who gradually destroys a piece of glass by pounding it against his face. Via a contact microphone and some electronics, the glass generates an intense noise that is controlled by his facial actions. He’s played Bristol before and it was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen done in the name of entertainment. Yeldham is one of many interesting and original acts on offer in Bristol’s forthcoming Venn Festival.

Sorry to inject something pitifully sad into a normally funny blog, but two news stories have collided as Westboro Baptist Church (famous for picketing the funerals of AIDS victims and Iraq war soldiers; first brought to British TV screens by Michael Moore and more recently profiled in a Louis Theroux documentary, “The Most Hated Family in America”) have announced that they plan to picket the funerals of the Virginia Tech massacre victims. They say that the murderer was sent by God to punish an America that tolerates homosexuality.
