Review of the Year 2005
Yearly Doodz’n’Chyx Annual 2005 Review of the Year in Review
…including the long-awaited Link of the Year!
Thanks to Chris M, Paul A and informal feedback from other D’n’C members.
Stuff made by us
Three of the nominated links are created by other D’n’C members.
Paul A writes: “Socially, one of the highlights of the year has been discovering the joys of Movieoke, and the best performance by far was Chris as Gollum”
Chris nominates “Kill Me To Give Me A Boner”: “A tune, so catchy that even my Mum likes it, allied to enough morbidly perverse eroticism for my Dad’s tastes: what more can you ask for? If only I could stop singing it on public transport.”
I’d like to nominate the GlittyKnittyKitty blog. “An endlessly surprising mix of unspeakable cuteness, human warmth and sexual perversion” is how I would describe the blog, and also how I’d describe its two progenitors, GlittrGirl and ScumKitten.
Chris: “The one true response to our hysterical times. The idea of posting a suitably vengeful or tragic pose for use in media eulogies following your murder is both simple and profound(ish).”
Paul writes: “Politics has been a pretty depressing thing to think about in the last 12 months. This was one of the few things that made it bearable.”
Paul: “Something I resist the temptation to link to on a Daily basis, is the Daily Show – so I just save it for special occasions.”
A bit of fortuitous social networking led to the most positive and heart-warming link this year.
Chris writes “At first glance this seemed a macho triviality but this simple question inspired a debate that encompassed reason, logic, wit and above all else…well..macho triviality. Hurrah.”
This has to be my favourite interactive educational site ever, despite the fact that it’s in Flash and frequently baffling. The attention to detail is stunning.
Paul: “In many ways 2005 has been the year of the mashup – there have been some classics, but the Freelance Hairdresser has some crackers that appeal to me, as they feature all the theme tunes to shows I watched as a kid.”
Chris: “Like a punch-drunk boxer I kept stumbling into the next blow. When would I realise that the new SW films really, really suck? This film captured and articulated everything that I felt, with extended wee jokes added for good measure.”
Paul: “In confessions corner, I have to say that as well as linking to her divine loveliness, the gorgeous Amanda Congdon was responsible for way too many of my links this year.”
And now, the clear overall winner… Open the envelope, Chris!
Doodz’n’Chyx Link of the Year
Chris writes “Quite simply the best bit of editing I’ve seen since Memento. The idea of using raw footage to re-engineer the genre of a film trailer is great. The execution was stunning. I watched it a hundred times and continue to both chuckle and admire the craft.”
