Human drummers play the Aphex Twin

Posted by Martin Poulter on 9 February 2015

The Aphex Twin’s programmed drum beats are so complex, with variations in every bar, that it’s nearly impossible for human drummers to replicate them. It’s not totally impossible, as illustrated by some drum covers. My favourite example of this is Adam Byram covering “Rushup I Bank 12” – as joyful a viewing as a drum video can possibly be.

Next I should mention Ben Anderson’s version of “Flim” which, while more conventional, is performed in one take while blindfolded, because why the hell not?

The lower video quality lets it down, but another really impressive demonstration of skill is Simone Morettin performing a note-perfect transcription of “Vordhosbn”.
