One of the points of this blog is to track online trends and fads, and this English widower’s series of videos on YouTube have received a lot of mainstream media coverage. Maybe he’s seen the film “Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead”?

One of the true gems of Bristol music, SJ Esau has an obsession with cats, an extraordinary talent for witty wordplay and an ability to build up incredible loops of noise with guitar and electronics. He is also in Jeremy Smoking Jacket and other local bands. Lyrics don’t come any more bitter and twisted than his “Insidious Whinge”: read the lyrics, download the mp3s and generally delve into the SJ Esau world on his site.

What a funky little mash-up! Fly around on Google maps, and perhaps partake in a strafing run along Madison Avenue?

This brilliant music video was made 3 years ago for local Bristol act RLF (as he was then – he’s since moved back to London and reinvented himself as Bass Clef). Very witty, with lots of nods to the work of Chris Cunningham.
