Boing Boing - that directory of wonderful things, pointed me to this story of renewed interest in an obscure film from the studios of ………… wait for it…… it’s not what you might expect……
DISNEY (sponsored by Kotex)!
There is a link to some stills…… old style cell animation. Ah. The old way. Took years to make animated films then! Reading the story and looking at the film did make me wonder - how many women worked on this film? Disney was well known for employing gifted women artists and illustrators, and giving them no credit whatsoever……

The first review for this DVD on Amazon.com reads:
This is a Japanese live-action film (with subtitles) about a pro wrestler who dies, but is reincarnated as a man-size squid, and tries to reclaim his lost wrestling title.
Took me about fifteen minutes before I realized it was a satire of the boxing movie, “Rocky”. Actually, it’s a satire on all of the Rocky movies combined.
Laughed so hard I fell off my chair a few times. Absolutely brain-melting, Highly recommended (that is, if you happen to enjoy the truly bizarre)
I am rushing off to buy a copy now……

…and he has fat right-wing redneck hicks with guitars to prove it.
France, incidentally, was wrong.

So, it’s 2006 and many people will be reaching for the diet books. How about bucking the trend, and reaching for 1 lb of cheese, and 1/2 lb macaroni and mixing yourself up a heartattack?! It looks great, though, dunnit?

I’m just blogging this out of annoyance. How misleading is this map of world religions? And how misleading is this map of the solar system? Remember the scene in “The King and I” with the absurd “map of the world” that the Siamese kids were taught from? What a disservice to children these “educational” materials are doing.
