All praise the Prelinger Archives for bringing us this unintentionally hilarious 1950s propaganda film. Made by Charles Keating (of Savings and Loan scandal fame) it warns of how news-stand pornography is sapping the will of the United States to fight the evil of Communism. I kid you not. The narrator seems very enthused as he lists at length all the sexual perversions and shows many examples of pornography that stimulates them (very cheesy and safe for work by today’s standards). If distribution on paper was bringing a tide of obscenity to the nation, just think what they would have made of the Internet.

Despite being from a comedy site, this is one of the more intelligent commentaries that I’ve seen on the Al Qaeda threat.
“Let me slow that down and run that by you again Al-Qaeda, we firebombed the refugee filled city of Dresden killing hundreds of thousands of people and history still recognizes the United States as one of the good guys. Do you know why? Because we were better than the alternative. Do you know what’s not better than the alternative? You.”

http://www.ishkur.com/features/music/index.htm Exactly what it says on the tin, with examples from genres like noizecore and jazzstep. My favourite so far is by “Navicon Torture Technologies”, but there’s something here for everyone. Needs Flash and headphones / understanding colleagues.

Sarah Jane Newbury’s media career is a surprising parallel to my own. As a 45-year-old virgin, she has appeared in various magazines and West Country local press Her celibacy is of the until-I-get-married kind and seems to be related to her enthusiastic Christianity. Consult an optician after viewing her enormous web site.

One year one from the start of the war in Iraq, it seems appropriate to blog this fine collection of documents, articles and audio/video summing up the reasons for war that don’t get mentioned.

Subjects covered include foreknowledge of 9/11, gas pipelines, oil reserves and the Project for the New American Century. The audio, video and music/satire sections are particularly good.
